President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the construction $2.4bn Red line rail system in Lagos state

Dr. Moberelola further added that the government is set to complete the Blue Line light rail project by the end of the forthcoming year.
He said: “we are mindful of the problem of transportation in Lagos State. Towards the end of next year, something will happen. Our rail project is 27 km and we are doing it in phases. We are doing Mile 2 to CMS now and we will do Mile 2 to Okokomaiko later.”
Moberelola disclosed that Lagos state was the only state to have embarked on this project with any financial support from the federal government with a short period of time as it takes other countries about seven years to roundup such projects.

He further made references to Dubai who had all resources but still took them seven years to complete their rails system while it took some countries about 22-years.
It could be recalled that the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), began its operation in 1898, when the first railroad in Nigeria was constructed by the British colonial government and the rail system reached its maximum extent shortly after the Nigerian independence in 1964.
During this period, the NRC declared bankruptcy as all rail traffic stopped for six months before the trains resumed locomotives with foreign assistance.
