Investigations reveal that the scammers would claim they loved the victims and wanted to travel to Vietnam to marry them.
Between mid-2014 and January 2015, the trio are said to have defrauded more than 10 women across the country.
Further enquiry shows that the gang has cheated at least 21 women out of VND1.6 billion (Over N14 Million).
According to the victims, the fraudsters used falsified information to contact them via social networks.
The potential victims were lured using a Caucasian man’s photo.
Chikelu and his gang colluded with a Vietnamese woman identified as L, who posed as a shipping agent and contacted the women, saying their gifts had arrived in Vietnam from their supposed lover.
L would however, tell the women that they needed to pay a fee to receive the items from customs.
The unsuspecting victims would then make cash transfers to the agent, only to realize that they had been duped.
In connection with the scam, police have arrested two Vietnamese women, Le Dung Tuyen and Tran Thuyen Ly, who leased their bank accounts to the Nigerian scammers.
Ly confessed that she came to know the Nigerian men in 2010, they had asked her to open bank accounts for their transactions, promising to pay her a 10 percent commission.
