If Lena Dunham has a big sign in her office counting off the number of days since she last said something stupid in public, it"s currently showing a big fat goose egg.
Fortunately, the number wasn"t too high to begin with, as it hasn"t even been a month since she accused Justin Bieber of promoting rape in his song lyrics.
Anyway, Lena jammed all five toes in her gaping maw even worse than usual this time, and she fortunately had the sense to quickly apologize to what we assume is her rapidly dwindling fan base.
Here"s what Lena recently had to say about meanies being mean on the Internet:
var spotx_content_player_width = Math.max(document.getElementById("spotx_collapse").offsetWidth, 300);
var spotx_content_player_height = parseInt(spotx_content_player_width * 0.75);
var spotx_script = document.createElement("script");
var spotx_ad_done_function = function(bPlayedAd)
// Remove margin
document.getElementById("spotx_collapse").style.marginBottom = "0px";
// Hide if we didn"t show ad
if (!bPlayedAd)
document.getElementById("spotx_collapse").style.display = "none";
;
spotx_script.setAttribute("src","http://search.spotxchange.com/js/spotx.js");
if (is_mobile)
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_channel_id","119118");
else
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_unmute_on_mouse","1");
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_channel_id","123000");
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_ad_unit","incontent");
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_ad_volume","0");
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_ad_mute","1");
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_content_width",spotx_content_player_width);
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_content_height",spotx_content_player_height);
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_autoplay","1");
spotx_script.setAttribute("data-spotx_collapse","1");
document.getElementById("spotx_collapse").appendChild(spotx_script);
"I used to read Gawker and Jezebel in college and be like, "I can"t wait to get to New York where my people will be to welcome me." And it"s like, it"s literally, if I read it, it"s like going back to a husband who beat me in the face – it just doesn"t make any sense."
No, Internet snark is not at all like a woman being physically assaulted by her husband. Not even a little bit.
If you want people to pity you for being bullied online, don"t admit that just a few short years ago you used to read the most scathing Gawker articles and think, These are my people!!!
To be fair, Lena has been subjected to body shaming and other forms of online cruelty, and while such abuse can be demeaning and even traumatic in some cases, it still doesn"t warrant a comparison to spousal abuse.
It brings to mind the time Gwyneth Paltrow likened Internet negativity to war trauma. Yes, that really happened, and you don"t want to be compared to Gwyneth, no do you, Lena?
As we said, Lena took to Instagram to offer an apology, but this still ranks among the dumbest celebrity gaffes of 2015.
And folks, if you want to criticize Lena Dunham, please do so for something substantial - like the fact that she just guest starred on the worst Simpsons episode ever (please read that aloud in a Comic Book Guy voice).
